Despite the common use of variable speed motors, there are still cases where the users prefer wound rotor motors. Such construction was originally developed to increase the staring torque and allow speed variation commanding the rotor resistance through slip rings. Typical applications are those where the inertia is high (large fans, large mills) or heavy loads (lifting cranes). Electro Adda keeps such traditional construction in the product range under CR series. The picture shows 2 twin motors used on a large cranes for the main lifting(please note the removable inspection hatch at the non-drive end). A remarkable red colour was selected as well as extra-large cable glands.
